Article Processing Charges

AgroEnvironmental Sustainability is an open access journal: readers pay nothing to read or download articles. The cost of publishing is instead covered by an article processing charge (APC), paid once an article has been accepted.

Article Processing Charge (APC) Details:

Indian authors: 3500 INR (excluding payment gateway charges)
Non-Indian authors: 35 USD (excluding payment gateway charges)

There is no charge for submission or peer review. The APC is payable only after a manuscript has been accepted following peer review. Articles declined at any stage are not charged. There are no additional charges for colour figures, supplementary files, or page length.

What the APC Covers:

  • Management of peer review through the journal's online system, and similarity checking with iThenticate (see the Plagiarism Policy);
  • Copyediting, typesetting, and proof correction;
  • DOI registration and deposit of metadata and references with Crossref;
  • Permanent online hosting of the article, free of charge to readers, under the CC BY 4.0 licence;
  • Long-term preservation in the PKP Preservation Network;
  • Submission of published content to indexing and abstracting services.

APC Waivers and Discounts:

  • Waivers for authors from lower-income countries: Corresponding authors based in low-income and lower-middle-income economies, as classified by the World Bank, may request a 20% reduction in the APC.

  • Discounts for society members and journal reviewers: Members of the Society for AgroEnvironmental Sustainability, and reviewers who have completed a review for the journal in the past twelve months, may request a 20% discount on one article per year.

  • Other cases: Authors facing genuine difficulty in paying may write to the editorial office to explain their circumstances, and each request is considered individually.

Waivers and discounts should be requested at submission, in the cover letter, or by email to info@sagens.org. Requests are handled by the editorial office, not by the editors or reviewers dealing with the manuscript, and a request for a waiver has no effect on the editorial decision. Only one discount or waiver can be applied to an article.

Editorial Independence:

Editorial decisions are based only on peer review and the editors' assessment of the work. The ability to pay the APC is not taken into account, and paying the APC does not affect whether, or how quickly, a manuscript is accepted.

Payment Process:

After acceptance, the editorial office sends the corresponding author an invoice and payment instructions. Payment can be made online by card, bank transfer, or other electronic methods through the publisher's payment portal. The article is assigned to an issue once the APC, the signed publishing agreement (see the Copyright and Licensing Policy), and the proof corrections have been received.
